Adding New Web Parts to a Page or Site in EPM Live

1. Navigate to the site in your site collection where you want to add new web parts. On the Site Actions menu, click Edit Page.

2. Click Add a Web Part in the section of the page where the web part will be added. You may move it to another section afterward if desired.

3. Check the boxes next to the web parts that you want to add to your site and click the “Add” button.

4. Click the “Exit Edit Mode” link in the top right corner of the page.

5. You should now see your new web part(s) that have been added to the page.

Note: You also have the ability to move web parts in the edit mode from within zones and across zones by dragging the web part to the desired position in the list on the page.

Using EPM Live Total Field Settings

The Total Field Settings allow you to specify how you want to calculate the summary level of data within your List. See the screenshot below for an example:

You can see how the values are "totaled" or summarized for each field. SharePoint has this functionality out of the box, however, it does not allow you to specify totals for calculated field types. The custom EPM Live Total Field Settings functionality allows you to specify a summary method for all fields in a List. The settings are only relevant when using the List in conjunction with EPM Live Web Parts such as the Grid Web Part. When using these settings, they will override the "Totals" settings within each View.

The Total Field Settings link can be accessed from the List Settings screen of any List within the EPM Live environment.

The Total Field Settings screen displays all of the fields/columns within the List.

How to Retrieve a Deleted Workspace

What happens if I accidentally delete a previous copy of my workspace? How can I retrieve it?

The following instructions apply to EPM Live hosted, online customers:
EPM Live maintains a backup copy of every workspace. The backup copy is one day old, at most. Contact EPM Live for available options to restore lost sites. A person with Administrator permission can restore the website or Business Applications data from the backup at any time through the Administration feature, located within the workspaces area of EPM Live.

Error Message: Product cannot be activated at this time

Symptoms

When activating Project Publisher you receive the following message:

Product cannot be activated at this time

Cause

Cause 1: This error typically means that you are behind a proxy server and Project Publisher cannot access the internet to activate
Cause 2: In rare cases, it means that you do not have Internet connectivity

Workaround/Resolution

Resolution 1: Your proxy server settings need to be entered into Project Publisher. You can enter these settings in the "Proxy Settings" sub menu located in the "Help" menu of Project Publisher.

Resolution 2: Validate that you are able to launch Internet and access an Internet site, i.e., Yahoo, Google, MSN, etc.

Changing Views in EPM Live

In order to change a view click the drop down window in the top right corner of the view.
The drop down is labeled "view".
The drop down window will give you the available views to choose. From here, you may also create new views or modify the existing views, pending you have adequate permissions.

What are the Differences Between the "Title" Columns?

In any given SharePoint List there are actually 3 different Title columns that can be used in the Views:

Title (linked to item) - When used, this field will display the title as a hyperlink that links to the view item screen.
Title (linked to item with edit menu) - When used, this field will display the title as a hyperlink that links to the edit screen of the item.
Title - When used, this field will display the title without a hyperlink.

When the EPM Live Grid Web Part is used with the List, it is important to note the differences between each "Title" column type when configuring your Views. For example, if you wanted to display a read-only view of tasks, you will need to ensure that the "Title" column is being used in the View as opposed to Title (linked to item) or Title (linked to item with edit menu). In addition, when only the Title field is used in a View, the right-click functionality within the Grid Web Part is disabled.

Error executing child request when viewing EPM Live Reports

Symptoms

The following error occurs when viewing EPM Live SSRS Reports:

An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help
Error executing child request for /ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx.
The type Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.Analytics.UI.ReportViewerMessages, Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c does not implement IReportViewerMessages or could not be found

Cause

If you have both MOSS 2007 ( Microsoft Office SharePoint Server) and Reporting Services ( not in SharePoint integrated mode) installed on the same IIS virtual server this error will occur. This is because, by default, MOSS uses the "/reports" url for its Report Center and its the same virtual directory url for native SQL Reporting Services Report Manager as well.

Workaround/Resolution

1) In the Root web.config to comment out the below. Otherwise the reportserver will give sessionState partitionResolver Issue



2) In both Reportserver and ReportManager vdir web.config, the following should be added under appSettings. Otherwise you will get ReportViewer error messages

Write a Macro for Fields with Project Server

Writing a Macro to Copy a Microsoft Project Field to an Enterprise Field in Project Server

This was a solution that we implemented for a customer who was using EPM Live v2 with Project Server 2007 that wanted to publish out the "Resource Names" column in Microsoft Project as a Text field. By default, Project Publisher takes the resources in the Resource Names column of Microsoft Project and places them in the Assigned To field within SharePoint. This process is only done for "mapped" users though, which prohibits unmapped users from being published to SharePoint. By copying the Resource Names column in Microsoft Project to a Text field and then publishing out, the text field can be used in SharePoint to view all users assigned to tasks independent upon whether they were mapped or not.

Access denied error when trying to access the EPM Live Work Planner

Symptoms

You receive an Access denied error when trying to access the EPM Live Work Planner even though you have rights through SharePoint.

Cause

You are not listed as one of the Project Managers within the Project Center List.

Workaround/Resolution

Add the appropriate users to the Project Managers column in the Project Center List. The user must also be included as a Resource in the Resource Pool.

EPM Live Version 2.2 Upgrade Instructions (onsite deployments only)

Upgrade Instructions

Your EPM Live system will be down while performing the steps below, we recommend that you perform these steps during a scheduled maintenance time frame or after hours. The steps below will replace your existing EPM Live solutions with the new EPM Live solutions. This process will simply update the EPM Live features (code) within your SharePoint environment and will have no effect on any custom features you have developed. However, if your system is experiencing technical issues related to EPM Live after you have upgraded to version 2.2, please contact support at support@epmlive.com.

Because only customers who have purchased EPM Live Software Maintenance are entitled to this upgrade, the link to the version 2.2 software download was sent in an email to all subscribed customers on 5/6/2009. If you did not receive the email and feel you are eligible, please contact us at support@epmlive.com.

Upgrade Prerequisites

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 or MOSS SP1
We recommend that you also patch your SharePoint environment with the February 09 updates from Microsoft. The February update is not mandatory, however, is strongly recommended by EPM Live and Microsoft. Here is a link to the SharePoint Team Blog highlighting the February update.
Browse to the Application Management tab within your SharePoint Central Administration. Under the EPM Live Administration section, click on the Solution File Versions link. Verify that the EPM Live Web Parts, EPM Live Workplanner, and EPM Live Core solutions are of version 2.1 or later. If you are upgrading from version 1.0, please contact EPM Live Support for assistance.
The reporting within EPM Live is much more powerful when using SSRS 2008 instead of 2005. SSRS 2008 requires .NET framework 3.5 but can be installed along side SSRS 2005. You may want to think about installing SSRS 2008.

Before you upgrade, please be sure to read the upgrade release notes.
Copy the upgrade files to the web server where Central Administration is installed.

Retract and Remove existing solution files

1. From the SharePoint Central Administration Operations tab, click the solution management link in the Global Configuration section.

2. Please verify that you have the following solutions deployed (you may have additional solutions as well):

epm live core.wsp
epmlivewebparts.wsp
epmliveworkplanner.wsp

The solutions above will need to be replaced using the following steps:

3. Retract the solution files shown above by clicking on their name in the Solution Management screen and then clicking the Retract Solution button.

4. Choose to retract the solution "now" and then choose to retract from All content Web applications. You will not have this choice for the epmliveworkplanner.wsp solution as it is globally deployed.

Note: Retracting the solution files may take a few minutes to complete. The status next to each solution should say "Not Deployed" indicating that the solution has retracted from ALL Web Applications. If one or more of the solutions fail to retract, please make sure to go back into the management screen to fully retract each solution from ALL Web Applications so that they can be removed in the next step.

5. You may have to wait a few seconds for the solution to fully retract. Once the Status shows "Not Deployed", click on the solution name link once again and then click the Remove Solution button.

6. Repeat steps 3, 4, and 5 for each solution displayed in bold from the list above.

7. Reset IIS

Install and deploy new solution files

In the next step you will be deploying the new solutions.  The batch file script that you will run will deploy the updated solutions to all of the Web Applications in your farm. The batch file will also deploy an additional solution called epmlivesync.wsp. If you do not want to install and deploy the new solutions to all of the Web Applications your farm, you will need to edit the batch file to specify a specific Web Application.

    1.    Double click on the EPMLivev2_2.bat file to run it. This will re-install and re-deploy the 3 solutions that you have just removed and also install the new epmlivesync.wsp solution.

    2. When the batch file is finished running, refresh the solutions page within Central Administration to verify that all 4 solutions were successfully installed.

    3. Please verify that the epmlivecore solution is also deployed to the Web Application where Central Administration is installed. If not, please deploy to the Web Application where Central Administration is installed.

Note: Just as sometimes solutions do not retract from ALL Web Applications, at times they also do not deploy to ALL Web Applications as planned. Please verify that each solution is installed on ALL Web Applications.

Uninstall and reinstall the new site templates (optional but recommended)

In the next step you will be installing the latest Site Collection and Project Workspace templates. The batch file script that you will run will uninstall and reinstall both templates. You can still use older versions of the templates with EPM Live version 2.2, however, it is recommended that you perform this step to install the latest templates. Click here to view the template release notes.

Note: If you have customized your own templates, this step will not replace your customized templates (assuming you have renamed your custom templates).

1. Double click on the EPMLivev2_2Templates.bat file to run it. This will re-install and re-deploy the two EPM Live Templates.

Upgrade the EPM Live database

This next step will install new stored procedures, function, and tabes in your EPM Live database.

1. Run the following sql files against your epmlive database in the following order:

SplitFunction.sql
CreateTables.sql
SP_GetListParam.sql
SP_GetPoolURL.sql
SP_GetResResults.sql

Re-activate the EPM Live Timer Service and activate the EPM Live Charting Application

    1. Browse to the Application Management tab of Central Administration. Click on the Manage Web application features link under the SharePoint Web
       Application Management section.

    2. Select the appropriate Web Application(s), then click the Activate button next to the EPM Live Timer Service.

    3. Select the appropriate Web Application(s), then click the Activate button next to the EPM Live Charting Service.

Install the new SSRS reports

Before installing the SSRS reports, please verify that you have completed the prerequisite that includes installing the 2008 version of the report server data extension. http://kb.epmlive.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50238.aspx

Also, if you have customized any of the EPM Live reports, please save the .rdl files to a local drive before installing the 2.2 reports. The 2.2 reports will replace the 2.1 reports.

1. Double click on the ReportsInstaller.exe to run it.

2. In the first textbox, enter the URL to your reportserver directory. Make sure that the URL entered can be resolved by users who will be accessing the reports. This will be the URL used when accessing reports through EPM Live.

3. Leave the second textbox blank in order to install the reports on the root directory. Click Next.

4. The next screen will verify the version of SSRS that you have installed. Click Next.

5. Select your SharePoint Web Application and URL. If your SharePoint Web Application uses alternate access mappings, you will see more than one URL in the URL dropdown list. Make sure to select the URL that is used by users when accessing SharePoint.

6. Click Next to install the reports.

7. Browse to the /reports directory of SSRS (Reports Manager). Click on the EPMLiveDB data source.

8. Under the Connect Using section, select Credentials stored securely in the report server. Enter the username and password of an account with read access to the epmlive database, then select the Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source option and click the Apply button.

Site Collection Configuration for existing Site Collections

Your EPM Live environment is now upgraded to version 2.2. Although all of the new features and fixes are now installed in your environment, there are a few steps that need to be conducted on each existing Site Collection in order to take advantage of the 2.2 functionality.

Re-activate the Web Part Feature
Because of the way SharePoint is architected, any time new Web Parts are installed, the epmlivewebparts solution needs to be de-activated/re-activated in order to re-populate the Web Parts gallery and gain access to any new Web Parts.

The following steps will momentarily disable your EPM Live Web Parts.

1. For each Site Collection that you manage, from the top level site, navigate to the Site Settings page.
2. Under Site Collection Administration, click the Site Collection Features link.
3. Locate the EPM Live Web Parts feature and click the Deactivate button. Click the deactivate this feature link.
4. Click the Activate button next to the EPM Live Web Parts feature.
5. Your Web Parts Gallery should now be updated.

Activate the EPM Live Menus
The EPM Live Menus are now controlled through Site Features as opposed to Site Collection Features as they were in version 2.1. That said, please follow the steps below to enable the appropriate EPM Live menus.

In version 2.2 there are three sets of EPM Live menus. Each set of menus show up under the EPM Live Administration section of Site Settings but either show/hide based on whether the specific Site Feature is activated on the site or not. By clicking on the Site Features link under the Site Administration section of the Site Settings page, the following features can be seen and activated/deactivated:

EPM Live Menus - Config: This feature will show/hide the EPM Live configuration menus. This feature should be activated at the top level site as well as any department or group level sites.
EPM Live Menus - Top Level: This feature will show/hide the Timer Settings and Notification Settings links. This feature should only be activated at the top level site as it controls functionality specific to the entire Site Collection.
EPM Live Menus - Workspace: This feature will show/hide the EPM Live menus specific to Workspaces.

Please activate the appropriate menus in your environment.

Microsoft Office Project Server is a powerful application that many EPM Live customers are leveraging to centralize and manage their project schedules. It has a robust database back-end that allows for storing enterprise resources, field attributes, field calculations, and more. However, many of our customers are looking to leverage their investment and extend their EPM solution to manage more than just the tasks and schedules of their projects and programs. They also want to deploy Project Server throughout more of their organization.

By connecting EPM Live to the Project Server platform, our customers leverage all the features of Project Server and tie it together nicely with a flexible SharePoint solution that enables them to manage their entire project. Project Managers (or Schedulers) can still use Microsoft Project Professional without any new training or change to their process. Timesheets and Enterprise Resources can be utilized without any impact to the end users. The only difference is a positive one; EPM Live enables organizations to extend the solution to reach a broader audience and meet the needs of the entire project team.

For example, project teams need to begin collaborating on a project far in advance of creating a schedule. SharePoint Views in EPM Live Rollup Lists Are Missing Fields

Symptoms

EPM Live has been deployed onsite and fields/columns are missing in certain List Views.

Cause

This could be because SP1 (Service Pack 1) has not been applied to SharePoint. The EPM Live templates have been configured in an SP1 environment so this is required when deploying onto the client site.

Workaround/Resolution

To fix this issue, install SP1 for MOSS 2007 or WSS 3.0.

Creating Work Planner Templates

Availble in EPM Live (version 2.1 and later) is the ability to create Work Planner templates. Creating a Work Planner template is accomplished by simply saving an entire site as a template including content (assuming your tasks have been created in the Task Center). Using this process you are limited to one Work Planner template per Site Template but it's a nice way to enable template functionality when using the Work Planner. Follow the steps below to create a template:

In the site that you want to use as your template, create a new project called "Template".
Create your tasks using the Work Planner.
Make any other adjustments necessary to your template.
From within the Site Settings section, Save your site as a template and be sure to include content.

Next time a new project is created through the EPM Live New Project screen and the new template is selected, the system will create the new project and template renaming the "Template" project to whatever name the user provides.

Uploading Custom List Templates in EPM Live

1. Select and download the custom List Template from the KnowledgeBase Solution Gallery: http://kb.epmlive.com/DownloadsCategory74.aspx.

2. Login to EPM Live (as an administrator) to the site collection where you want to upload this template. Make sure to browse to the top level site of the site collection.
3. On the "Site Actions" menu, click "Site Settings." If you are not already at the top level site, click "Go to top level site settings." Under the Galleries section, select "List templates".

4. On the Upload drop down menu, click 'Upload document' or 'Upload multiple documents' depending on how many List templates you wish to upload.

5. Browse to the .stp file on your computer and upload it.

6. The List Template should now be ready to go.

7. To create the new List item, on the "Site Actions" menu, click "Create."

8. Find and select the new List item to create it.

Receiving "Field Types" errors in event viewer

Symptoms

You receive "Field Types" errors in the event viewer when you have EPM Live installed onsite.

Cause

These errors are due to an .xml file being in the wrong location.

Workaround/Resolution

1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Templates\XML
2. Move the "FLDTYPES_EPMLIVE_BACKUP.xml" file to another location. (Anywhere except this directory. We suggest C:\Program Files\EPM Live\EPM Workgroup Toolkit)

Changing the Quick Launch Menus in Your Workspace

With EPM Live you have the ability to modify the headings and links in your top quick launch menu. The quick launch menu is located at the top of your workspace. To modify the quick launch in you workspace follow these instructions.

1. Go to your Project workspace by clicking on your project name in "Project Center".

2. Click “Site Actions” and then choose the “Site Settings” option.

3. Click the “Quick Launch” link in the “Look and Feel” section.

4. On this page you have the ability to add, edit, and delete links and headers as well as change the order of the links and headers.

Note: Headers are the bolded titles and links are the indented titles underneath the headers. To delete a link or header click the icon of the one you want to delete then click “Delete” on the page that follows. You also have the ability to edit headers and links from this page.

Web Part Error Message using Rollup Web Part

You receive the following error when adding an EPM Live Rollup Web Part to the page:

Trying to use an SPWeb object that has been closed or disposed and is no longer valid.

Cause

This error is caused by an incompatibility between the EPM Live Rollup Web Part and another Web Part on your page.

Workaround/Resolution

The EPM Live Rollup Web Part is no longer supported. Please use the EPM Live Grid Web Part for all of your roll up requirements instead. You can find more information regarding the EPM Live Grid Web Part in the Configuration & Administration Guide:
